Ecotourism was defined in 1987 as traveling to relatively
undisturbed or uncontaminated natural areas with the specific objective of
studying, admiring and enjoying the scenery and its wild plants and animals, as
well as any exciting cultural manifestations (both past and present) found in
this area (Ceballos-Lascurain, 1987, WWF, Vol.1, 1990).
We promote Ecotourism as a way to
bring to Armenia the resources that will help us preserve and protect our
natural and cultural heritage. This heritage has supported Armenians through
more than two millennia, and in our new freedom, we look to Ecotourism to
preserve that heritage by making it an important part of our new
economy.
In Armenia you will live in the past
and present at the same time. Signatures of millennia past cover the landscape.
Pagan sanctuaries still stand among the ancient Christian temples and powerful
creations of medieval architects. Walk outside your lodging, ride or walk
through our towns, villages and countryside and you will always be in museum in
the open air.
You will also be traveling in one of
the most diversified ecosystems in the world. Five of the seven primary
topographies exist in our small country of some 30,000 square kilometers. You
will experience a remarkable range of flora and fauna. With snow-capped
mountains only a few hours drive from subtropical valleys, in the changes in
altitude and local climates, you can experience seven springs in one
visit.
You love birds, wildflowers, rock and
land formations, fine lakes and mountain streams, minerals, archeology and
architecture, history? Then you are sure to love Armenia.
We can take you there:
ON HORSEBACK
HIKING
MOUNTAIN TREKKING
CLIMBING
ON SKIES ACROSS COUNTRY OR DOWNHILL
SAILING
WIND SURFING
